Cheap bicycle modding. Моддинг бюджетного велосипеда.
Today I post a my vision of budget chopper, based on cheapest teenage-oriented bicycle STELS 420. Soon there will be installed a conversion kit from ebay.

Urban whistle? Sure?
A whistle are not unnecessary part of equipment, but do You think it could be useful in urban area?
In a forest or outside of city, where synthetic sounds are hard to find, a whistle can really help You to survive - You just can not cry so loud as professional whistles can. It can be a batteryless signaling "radio" for You also.
But in urban. Hmmm... Really there are overconcentrated sounds cacophony, not so many man can attract sound of whistle. Why the hell You will need to use it at least? Alarm when attacking by criminals? Hah... If You are in a place and a time when You can be attacked - much more useful than whistle can be a pro defence things. A whistle is... Just USELESS.
(sorry for truth, I know so many of You just always having a whistle on).
The only place is a traveling backpack, and as we say before plastic would be just better. Heavy steel whistle in backpack? :)

Pliers in keychain multitool... Or smaller mt without em?
Realise at moment what functions of Your multitool do You use often?
I use scissors pliers and knife most of all. Pliers are very handy. Small metal parts bending and cutting smth with them.
One time I especially try not to use pliers - result is negative, pliers get tool more bulky but are very useful.

Plastic VS metallic.
In some cases we prefer one feature against other.
Let me tell You about how I prefer plastic or metal parts in EDC furniture.
1. Plastic.
Pros are - lightest, durable in bending and shockproofness. Cheap.
Weak side is wearing condition, cheap looking (in some cases), not a strong matherial.
In other words best is weight, bad is strenght. Best for using in bags as it can't scratch other stuff, lighweight, cheap and can be modified with force.
2. Metallic.
Pros are - strenght of material blahblahblah - opposite to plastic.
Weak side is weight, scrathing any glass and plastic, rare hi-quality gear.
Best using everywhere, whenether plastics are not good.
3. Combo parts.
I think that two worlds met at their best - combo parts. I mean when You use paracord over split ring for example, combine using plastic and metallic at bags and so on. Later I will show You a concept of DIY bag made of cordura with many cool functions and containing a lot of plastic and metallic furniture.
PS: I will add some pictures to my blog some later. It too dark at day due to weather. In some days I create more illustrating pictures.

Spare knife. Are there real need?
As I can see many people use to carry a multitool and spare knife.
As they are talking - for that kind of job that multitool use is not good (especially if it is premium multitool). As minimalist inside of me I'd like to say - there's no reason. As small quantity as possible with all functions - here I think is optimum.
Also some people says: "One is none - two is one".
Ok, but that does not mean to clone everything. If You need to double something - try to do it in bag, not on core carry. Also better is to use stronger and bigger things in bag and have lightest on with You at any moment.

Why "Heavy duty"?
Anonimous asked me - "why deavy duty?".
As I can see It will be a special question for me ;)
First of all I do prefer functionality and compact size. But this is not important when You get a cheap (low-low-end) knee-made useless thing. Small size means to be more quality items than usual - more fine finishing, more job to make thing perfect.
Of course anything small, functional and heavy duty cost NUMEROUS more money than usual things, it is a weak side. Also when everybody uses usual - quality and compact things become rare.
And a very important thing is information of "What things are best for..." - it is very hard to find answers and make your own solution.
